Orthoses for the Upper Limb
Muscle contractures at the hand, wrist and elbow are a common consequence of cerebral palsy. Custom-made and off-the–shelf orthoses can be fit for a variety of problems.
If a hand and wrist continually move into a poor position due to muscle tightness, static splinting may prevent further deformity. A static orthosis (or resting splint) can be used to position or stretch the hand, wrist or elbow into a better posture.
Wrist and elbow contractures can be managed and even reduced by using dynamic orthoses such as Ultraflex joint systems (www.ultralflexsystems.com) or Monodos one-way wrist and elbow joint components.
