Serkel helmet: a user guide

This guide is designed to help you understand what to expect, how to manage the Serkel helmet day to day, and when to reach out if you have questions.

Getting started with the Serkel helmet

Starting helmet therapy can feel like a big step. It’s normal to feel a little uncertain at first, especially in the early days. Most families find that, with a little time, helmet therapy becomes part of their routine — and we’re here to support you as you settle in.

The first few weeks are usually the adjustment period for both you and your baby. If you’re unsure about anything, please get in touch. We’re always happy to talk things through, review photos, or arrange an appointment if needed.

Things to look out for

Your child’s skin tells us a lot about how the helmet is fitting and whether it’s comfortable.

What’s normal

  • Mild redness when the helmet comes off
  • Redness that fades within 30–40 minutes

What needs checking

  • Angry red spots
  • Marks that do not fade after 30–40 minutes
  • Redness on ears that doesn’t settle

If you notice these:

  • Take a clear photo
  • Email it to us
  • We’ll let you know if we need to see your child in person

Signs the helmet is moving too much

Please contact us if:

  • The helmet drops down onto the nose bridge
  • The helmet is spinning on the head
  • The helmet comes off completely

Small adjustments or modifications can often fix this.
