Cam-Walkers are used to treat injuries to the foot and ankle, such as sprains, strains and stable fractures, such as stress fractures. They are also used post-operatively as an alternative to a plaster cast (much easier to scratch that itch).
Cam walkers are commonly fitted for foot and ankle fractures when the healed fracture needs further protection for a period of time after cast removal. This ensures a graduated and protected return to activity after a fracture.
Options include pneumatic liners for increased comfort and support (not available for some paediatric sizes), or extra rigid designs for increased support. We also have the OPED VacoPed walkers with their patented vacuum fitting system for maximum control of the foot and ankle (teenage/adult sizes only).
Cam walkers need to be fitted properly, as improper sizing or alignment of the device will either make it less easy to walk or actually cause problems such as knee or hip pain.
