Serkel Helmet
If helmet therapy is right for your baby, we’ll create a custom-made Serkel helmet—designed by our expert orthotists and built using TGA-approved 3D printing technology.
Serkel helmets are:
- Lightweight and breathable
- Comfortable and safe for daily wear
- Tailored to your child’s unique shape and needs
The helmet process includes:
- A 3D scan at your first appointment
- Manufacturing (around 1 week)
- Regular check-ups and scans every 4–6 weeks to track progress and adjust fit
Physical Therapy and Torticollis
If your baby has a strong head-turning preference or neck tightness, physiotherapy may help.
We can work with you and your physiotherapist to:
- Improve your baby’s range of neck motion
- Support symmetrical development
- Reduce the chance of ongoing flat spots
Long-Term Outlook
Most children with plagiocephaly or brachycephaly grow up happy and healthy, with no impact on their development.
However, early treatment can:
- Improve appearance and head symmetry
- Reduce the chance of persistent flatness into childhood
- Support confidence for you and your child

If you make the decision to proceed with a Serkel for your baby, our team of clinicians and software engineers will begin the process of designing and manufacturing your baby's Serkel.
Industry specific software is used to create a unique 3D printable file and sent to our industrial German 3D printers.
It takes approximately a week until your baby's Serkel will be ready for fitting.
Following fitting, we review the babies frequently to re-scan and adjust the fit as the head grows.

The Serkel works by artificially relieving pressure over the flat spot.
Once pressure from the weight of the head always being in the same spot is relieved, the bone immediately starts to grow and the head rounds out (dependant on age and severity).
We do not squeeze the skull back into shape, but redirect the growth to fill out the flattened area.
