Global Developmental Delay is a term used for conditions and undiagnosed problems in childhood that affect normal development, whether that is cognitive function, speech, motor (movement) skills or social and emotional development. Examples of conditions that may cause developmental delays are Fragile X syndrome, Down syndrome or Autism Spectrum Disorder.
It is in the area of motor delays that orthotic intervention can make a difference.
Low muscle tone can cause delays in when a child starts to stand or walk. Foot orthoses and AFOs can help to control unstable feet and legs allowing your child to learn motor skills needed for everyday life.
Our Orthotists will work closely with your physiotherapist or doctor to help determine if orthotic intervention will help.
