Plagiocephaly Helmets

Designed for comfort and breathability, our helmet includes a soft organic cotton liner that’s gentle on your baby’s skin. It gently guides head growth over time, helping encourage a more rounded shape as your baby grows.

How helmet therapy works

Plagiocephaly helmets, also called cranial remoulding orthoses, gently guide your baby’s head toward a more rounded shape. They create space where growth is needed and provide light contact over more prominent areas.

We use the Serkel helmet, designed and made in Melbourne using 3D scanning and printing technology. Each helmet is custom-made and typically worn for several months. Treatment is most effective between 4 and 6 months of age, while head growth is rapid. Helmet therapy can still be helpful up to 12 months, although earlier assessment is linked to more predictable outcomes.

Regular reviews ensure the helmet remains comfortable and continues to guide head shape appropriately. For babies with moderate to severe asymmetry, helmet therapy can provide meaningful improvement, particularly when started early.

Understanding Helmet therapy options

If your baby has been diagnosed with plagiocephaly or another head shape difference, it’s completely normal to feel unsure about what comes next.

Many families are at the beginning of this process and looking for clear, reliable information. We rely on peer-reviewed research and objective measurements to explain the options in a calm, balanced, and easy-to-understand way.

We’ve been assessing baby head shapes and fitting helmets for more than 25 years. Over that time, we’ve developed a deep understanding of how important clear guidance, realistic expectations, and consistent follow-up are when navigating helmet therapy.
