Ankle-Foot Orthoses (AFOs)

Our AFOs are custom-made to suit every shape and size. We carefully match the design to each child’s mobility needs, so no two are the same. They’re usually recommended when extra foot and ankle control is needed.

Overview

Ankle Foot Orthoses (AFOs) are custom-made braces that sit around the foot and lower leg. They support your child’s foot and ankle in a steady, aligned position.

They can help improve balance, strength and confidence during standing, walking and everyday movement for children who need extra support. AFOs may help with low muscle tone, weakness, tightness, or movement differences caused by conditions such as cerebral palsy, developmental delay, neuromuscular disorders or injury.

They don’t force movement — instead, they guide your child’s foot and ankle into a position that helps their muscles work more effectively as they grow and learn new skills.
